Clicking Allow doesn't turn a permission on by itself. It opens System Settings, and the permission is only on once you turn on the switch next to Splashtop SOS there. Do this for each permission, one at a time. Microphone is the exception: it just asks in a pop-up.

  1. Step 1

    Download Splashtop SOS

Click the button below. Your Mac saves a file called SplashtopSOS.dmg, usually to your Downloads folder.

    Download for Mac
  2. Step 2

    Open the download

In Chrome, click the download arrow at the top right of the window, then click SplashtopSOS.dmg. In Safari, the download arrow is at the right of the toolbar. You can also double-click the file in your Downloads folder.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click Splashtop SOS

A Splashtop SOS window opens. Double-click the Splashtop SOS icon in the middle of it.

  4. Step 4

    Click Open

Your Mac asks whether you're sure you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

  5. Step 5

    Click Allow

A Getting Started window lists the permissions Splashtop SOS needs. Click the first Allow button. This doesn't turn the permission on yet. It opens System Settings for the next step.

  6. Step 6

Turn on the switch in System Settings

This is the step people miss. In System Settings, find Splashtop SOS in the list and turn on its switch. Enter your Mac password or use Touch ID if asked. If your Mac asks you to quit and reopen Splashtop SOS, click Quit & Reopen.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat, then click Finish

Go back to the Getting Started window and click the next Allow button. Each one opens System Settings again, so turn on the switch there before moving to the next. Microphone is different: it shows a pop-up, so just click Allow. When every permission has a green check, click Finish.

  8. Step 8

    Read us your code

Splashtop SOS shows a 9-digit code. Read it to us over the phone and we'll connect.

When we're finished

Close Splashtop SOS. We can't connect again unless you open it and read us a new code.

Next time is quicker. Your Mac usually remembers these permissions, so you can skip straight from opening the app to reading us the code.

Stuck on a step?

Stay on the line and tell us what you see. We'll talk you through it.

On macOS Monterey and earlier, these switches are in System Preferences, under Security & Privacy, then Privacy. Your screens may look a little different from these drawings.
